Sustainable land use in the Petungkriyono District, Pekalongan Regency, Central Java, has shown positive development in recent years, especially through the practice of coffee agroforestry implemented by the community. This indicates a commitment to preserve remnants of natural forests and ensure the sustainability of the local economy. To ensure sustainable results and forest cover sustainability, the next step is to develop a comprehensive land management plan.
One of the tools used for the above purpose is Spatial Multi-Criteria Analysis (SMCA), which allows for the consideration of various relevant factors in decision-making. The principle of this analysis is to use a limited rational model to create outputs in the form of block direction maps according to their function (functional areas). The SMCA analysis process includes goal setting and conceptualization, data collection, SMCA analysis, field ground checks, and focus group discussions with the community and relevant parties.
The Relung Indonesia Foundation and the Javan Wildlife Institute (JAWI) have collaborated to conduct Spatial Multi-Criteria Analysis (SMCA) to produce a Map of Sustainable Land Use in the Petungkriyono District, Pekalongan Regency. The activity was carried out from January to May 2023, considering several crucial aspects such as ecological and socio-economic sustainability. The SMCA analysis process was based on secondary data, which was then verified by field surveys to produce more detailed land use maps. The initial land zoning model divided the area into five classes: Business As Usual (BAU), limited use, protection, utilization, and conservation. A comparison of the area of each class shows that conservation is the main focus in the latest model, with a significant increase in the conservation class area. In contrast, the BAU class has experienced a significant decrease in area. This indicates the adoption of a more proactive approach to environmental sustainability in the area.
