‘Tlogo Klanthing Emas’ Women Farmers Group in Tlogopakis Village, Petungkriyono: ‘Joint Savings Movement’

Women's Empowerment Collective

In Petungkriyono, the position of women refers to the responsibilities and roles carried out by women, generally in rural areas, including tasks related to household work (domestic roles) and farming or other economic activities outside the home. This dual role often creates additional pressure for women as they have to fulfill both domestic and economic responsibilities simultaneously.

During the implementation of the agroforestry and integrated farming development program in Tlogopakis village, Relung Indonesia accompanied the Klanthing Mas women farmers group by fostering financial literacy through a joint savings movement with a contribution of Rp15,000/week. The mentoring activities were conducted by building discussions in regular meetings every Friday, starting with basic financial education, learning about the needs and concerns of women in family finances, and financial education materials such as income, expenses, debt, investment, and savings.

The goal of the savings activity is to set aside money they earn for specific and realistic future needs. In these meetings, all members support and motivate each other. In this activity, the managers are also taught to create simple bookkeeping and use digital financial records to make it easier for them to save money, track expenses, and manage finances more efficiently.

Women’s groups collect money to save.

With this activity, individual women members of the Tlogo Klanthing Emas Women Farmers Group gain practical experience, in addition to theoretical education in financial management within the group. There are also discussions about cases of specific financial situations relevant to their daily lives. Furthermore, it is expected that this community can build a broader community by sharing knowledge, experiences, and other support in building financial literacy. Among the group members, they can support and motivate each other in their financial journey.

By implementing this savings movement, it can be a powerful tool to improve financial literacy among women groups in rural areas, enabling them to take control of their personal and family finances to achieve better financial stability.
